Work Starts On New Homes Development In Rothwell

Work has started restoring and transforming a landmark building in Rothwell, into part of a high quality new development that will consist of five spacious and individual homes.

The scheme, by Leeds based Advent Developments, will be called Lay Garth Glade and will see Glenald on Carlton Lane comprehensively refurbished to create two semi-detached, five bedroom, houses. In addition three, four bedroom detached houses will be built within the walled grounds of the historic building, which was formerly a doctors’ surgery and now forms part of Rothwell’s conservation area.

Lay Garth Glade will be the second development that Advent Developments has undertaken in Rothwell. Last year the multi-award winning company completed the transformation of the Grade II listed former Rothwell Primary and Nursery School into 14 unique two, three, four and five bedroom homes. The development, known as Carlton Green, proved to be hugely successful and was widely complimented by the community for the transformation of another well-loved local landmark.

Advent has appointed Wetherby based Keepsake Construction as the main contractor on the development where work has recently begun, with the first home available before Christmas. The homes will be marketed by local estate agents Your Move based on Commercial Street in Rothwell.

Tim Reeve from Advent Developments says: “After our success at Carlton Green, we’re delighted to be working in Rothwell again, restoring Glenald, which is another important landmark in the town. The stunning arts and crafts style building is in urgent need of a comprehensive refurbishment to give it a sustainable use for the future. Once complete, it will create two beautiful, spacious homes that will combine the property’s original character with a stunning finish that is ideally suited to modern family life.

“The three new homes in Glenald’s grounds will also meet an exceptional standard and the low-density design of the scheme means outdoor space and private gardens will be a key factor throughout the development. We’re also planting more than 20 new trees alongside the site’s existing healthy trees, which will further enhance Lay Garth’s green and leafy environment.”

Irene Scurrah from Your Move in Rothwell commented “We were overwhelmed by the positive comments made by both purchasers and the community on the Carlton Green development and it’s fantastic that that development was so well received, followed by a prestigious Leeds Award For Architecture earlier this year.

“We are confident that we’ll enjoy the same positive reaction at Lay Garth Glade and we have already received enquiries from homeowners who are keen to live close to Rothwell town centre, in a lovely leafy area, in a stunning new home.”
