Cooper Brown Enterprises Ltd. the parent company of some of Yorkshire and Derbyshire’s leading manufacturers, is proud to announce that it is headline sponsor of Get Up To Speed (GUTS) once again.
GUTS is an interactive exhibition that brings together young people and employers from local and regional businesses, to explore some the UK’s best innovations first hand and find out more about the huge opportunities in engineering-related roles.
The annual event is open to pupils, parents and carers and anyone in the teaching profession and takes place on 27th March at the MAGNA Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.
Cooper Brown Enterprises is the headline sponsor for the third year running and will play an active role in organising the event.

GUTS helps to inspire young people by bringing them face to face with engineers and engineering apprentices and to find out more about what a career in this industry is like and what you need to do to get that important first rung on the ladder. John Barber CEO of the work-wise Foundation and Chair of the GUTS Steering Group, adds: “In a recent report, 61% of engineering and manufacturing businesses were not confident there will be enough people with the skills required to fill their vacancies, so it is essential that we encourage the next generation to consider a career within the sector. With 1800 attendees already confirmed, this year’s GUTS is set to be bigger and better than ever before and it is only with the support of companies like CBE that we can run this event that inspires the next generation of future engineers.”
Over the past eight years Get up to Speed has attracted over 12,500 attendees, around 80% of whom were young people, families and teachers, and hundreds of companies from across Yorkshire. These included McLaren Automotive, Firth Rixson, Liberty Speciality Steel, Tinsley Bridge, Newburgh Precision, AESSEAL, Rolls Royce and Mazak.
This year’s event will see more than 60 businesses come together to meet with thousands of young people, including pupils from 50 schools across South Yorkshire.
Each year GUTS sees a host of familiar and new science, technology, engineering and manufacturing based attractions from some of the most innovative companies in the UK. This year’s exhibitions will include a space dome from the National Space Centre, a virtual welding station, giant Scalextric challenge, a moon base demonstrating all the different engineering disciplines involved in space travel and exploration and the ever popular F1 Showcars, to name a few.
In addition many technology, engineering and manufacturing disciplines will be on show from traditional tool manufacturing to medical implants, sports technology, aerospace, rail, construction and the motor industry from the Sheffield manufactured Simplex Car through to McLaren Automotive.
