Silvery Tweed Cereals will continue its support for Berwick-Upon-Tweed Cricket Club for the 2019 season and the local family-owned firm has marked the occasion by making a donation with a difference.
As well a logo displayed on the shirt sleeves of the club’s whites during the 2019 season, Silvery Tweed Cereals firm is donating 25 cases of its limited edition 175th anniversary beers to be sold behind the bar at the club to raise funds.
“We’re keen to support grass roots sport and our local community. The cricket club is a large part of that community and we want to contribute to its continuing success,” said Robert Gladstone, managing director of Silvery Tweed.
The two anniversary beers – 175 and 1843 – were brewed by Jedburgh based beer-makers, Born in the Borders, using grains sourced within 40-miles of Berwick. All money from the sale of the beer will go back into the running of the cricket club.
Robert added: “People have been really enjoying the beer and the fact that we’re both celebrating 175 years is very fitting. Having the money from the beers go back into the cricket club is very important. We want to help the club to carry on for another 175 years and see it succeed both on and off the pitch.”
A leading supplier to the UK breakfast cereal, bread and bakery markets, Silvery Tweed employs more than 90 people, cleaning and processing grain from growers based mostly in the Borders area within a 40-mile radius of its Berwick-upon-Tweed base.
