Chorley Students get Creative for ‘My Lancashire’ Art Competition

Year Seven to Year Nine pupils at Parklands High School in Chorley are preparing to get their creative thinking caps on for Miller Homes’ ‘My Lancashire’ art competition. The students have free-rein to illustrate their favourite place to go with family and friends, a treasured memory or wherever they are happiest – from their local park, to their favourite café in town or the surrounding countryside.

As Miller Homes are bringing more vital new homes to Lancashire, they want to hear from local students to find out what the county means to them. A winner will be picked from each of the three year groups with the prizes including art supplies such as easels, artist palettes, graphite sketching pencils and watercolours paint sets. In preparation for the summer holidays, the pupils will also receive vouchers giving them the chance to choose new summer clothes from an array of different shops. Judging the entries alongside Miller Homes will be William Titley, Senior Lecturer in Fine Art from the University of Central Lancashire, who will be providing his expert opinion.

William Titley comments, “I was delighted to be invited to judge the art competition at Parklands High School and I am very much looking forward to seeing the students’ perspective on what Lancashire means to them, and perhaps we will even discover a future Fine Art student.”

Headteacher of Parklands High School, Steve Mitchell adds, “It is great to be working alongside Miller Homes for this art competition, it is the perfect opportunity for the students to let their creativity loose, showing pride for their home and doing something fun as we come closer to the summer holidays.”

As Miller Homes’ Parklands View development shares Southport Road with the high school, the housebuilder thought they would be an ideal candidate for the competition. Encouraging local students to reflect on life in the county through art provides a unique window for others looking to move to the area. The winning pieces will be displayed in the Parklands View marketing suite, allowing all visitors to share the insights of the children.

“Here at Miller Homes, we always strive to get thoroughly involved with the local community surrounding our developments and we’re very much looking forward to learning more about why the younger generation love Lancashire as much as we do!”, says Sam Johnson, Sales Director Miller Homes North West.
