Yorkshire-based basement conversion specialists, Pure Basement Systems, are finding their services increasingly in demand, despite the challenges of the current cost of living crises.

According to Michael Foster, Pure Basement Systems’ Managing Director, homeowners are looking for ways to maximise the potential of their homes, rather than face the upheaval and expense of moving to a larger property. “Lots of our clients tells that they like the area they live in and that their children are settled with their friends and local schools are good. So improving and extending their home is preferable, rather than moving to a bigger house in a different area.”

A basement conversion offers a versatile, cost-effective way to extend a property and can be used for a range of different purposes including a home office, gym, family room, utility room, family kitchen, guest bedroom, playroom – the list goes on! As Michael Foster explained, basement conversions are also increasingly being used to make properties more suitable for working from home: “Since the pandemic we’ve been working with clients who are now working from home and need to find a way to create additional space in which to do this. Basement conversions make great home offices and depending on the amount of space available, can even be converted to provide multiple rooms, such as an office and extra bedroom, for example.’

Unlike other types of property extension, basement conversions don’t generally require planning permission, whilst the conversion process itself doesn’t usually affect the rest of the property and living arrangements.

Pure Basement Systems have been operating for over twelve years and in that time the company has been involved in hundreds of basement conversion projects throughout Yorkshire and as far afield as Newcastle, the Midlands, London and even Amsterdam! “Although the cost of living crisis is really starting to bite, homeowners are looking for cost-effective alternatives to moving house. As a basement is often an under-used and un-loved space, converting it into a useful additional living area is a great way to maximise the potential of a property,” concluded Michael Foster.
