A leading Yorkshire businesswoman has won a Forward Ladies award in the start-up businesswoman of the year category for Yorkshire and the North East.
Ellie MacDonald, founder and managing director of Leeds-based PR agency MacComms, started her firm in 2015, determined to create a business based on treating people right.
Offering PR, marketing and communications services across Yorkshire, MacComms has raised the profile of more than 100 businesses and the key spokespeople in it since forming.
Over the past three years MacComms has achieved 140% year-on-year growth and has grown an impressive roster of clients, 60% of which supports local tech-based businesses.
The awards, now in its ninth year, are organised by Forward Ladies, a global platform set out to empower and connect women in business. Hosting innovative events and programmes, Forward Ladies is a community that encourages women to thrive and support each other, whilst closing the gender pay gap.
Ellie’s underlying ethos is based on treating people right which is reflected in her support and solidarity for local homelessness charity, Simon on the Streets. Along with this, she received a certificate of special recognition for the Women’s Changemakers award, highlighting her focus on corporate responsibility and commitment to supporting the Yorkshire community.

I’m passionate about helping to close the gender gap and I’m proud to have built a team of many more inspiring young women. I am extremely excited for the national grand final in December!”
The national grand final will be at The Royal Armouries, Leeds on December 7th where Ellie will join regional winners from across the UK.
