A new Liverpool food bank, set up by Andrew Murphy from Litherland, has received a big donation from staff members at the North West regional office of housebuilder Bellway in Hunts Cross.

The Festive Food Bank was created to help families and individuals affected by financial hardship across Liverpool in the coming weeks and months, following a difficult year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Andrew collects donations from across the region but has also enlisted many businesses as drop off points in Bootle, Maghull, Fazakerley, Old Swan, Litherland, Aintree and Kirkby.

The team at Bellway’s Hunt Cross office kindly donated hundreds of food and personal hygiene items, worth in excess of £1000.

The giving doesn’t stop there, with Bellway employees also donating coats and warm clothing for the homeless in Liverpool, another initiative Andrew is involved in.

Louise Alexander, Accounts Assistant at Bellway, comments: “Andrew is a friend and I have always admired his charitable nature, dedicating his spare time to helping others. From the homeless to mental health, Andrew is committed to making a difference and when I heard he had set up a Festive Food Bank, I really want to support it.

“Working in an office with approximately 60 colleagues, although much reduced due to COVID-19 restrictions, I knew if we rallied together and all donated a few items, we could make a real impact. The team has been incredibly generous, and we delivered hundreds of much needed items worth more than £1000 to Andrew. We were also able to give unused coats and warm clothing for his homeless drive too.”

Andrew adds: “2020 has been a tough year for so many and with Christmas fast approaching I wanted to set up a Festive Food Bank to help individuals and families in need across Liverpool. The generosity of the team at Bellway’s Hunts Cross office has been amazing.

“I’d like to also thank everyone who has been involved so far. I have been blown away by the donations and the help I have received packing boxes from the amazing girls, plus the people volunteering their time to deliver the food parcels. It’s been so humbling and the messages of thanks that I get from those who receive the parcels make it all worthwhile.

“I will be forever grateful to every single person who has contributed in some way to support this initiative, helping me help as many families as I possibly can.”
