Mobile Mini strengthens its safety team

Mobile Mini's new health and safety advisor Nike Benson

An industry-leading national hirer of portable site accommodation and secure storage containers is putting safety first with its latest appointment.

Health and safety advisor Niki Benson has joined Mobile Mini, which has 15 branches across the UK and its headquarters in Stockton, from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and with 16 years of experience in the industry, will be managing the full health and safety operation for the southern region.

She said: “I gained my passion for health and safety in childhood as my mother worked for the HSE, so I’ve always had an awareness of risk and legislation.

“Having worked in both investigatory and advisory roles, and working on site, I’ve gained skills and experience not available in a classroom or office environment. My focus is to build on Mobile Mini’s already excellent safety record, and proactively promote a great health and safety culture within the company.”

Niki’s appointment comes as part of significant investment across the company, which includes improved branch infrastructure, an expanded fleet of industry-leading vehicles and the development of its team through the Driver Development Programme.

Chris Watcham, health and safety director for Mobile Mini, said of the appointment: “Niki has joined us at an exciting time, with continued investment in training and infrastructure.

“I believe our excellent safety record is all down to our ongoing programme of skills training, consistent health and safety messaging and a very strong safety-first culture, and I’m delighted Niki is on board to help us develop all these initiatives further.”

Niki, whose last role at the HSE involved working in the construction sector, said she was keen to build on the existing culture of health and safety among all Mobile Mini staff.

She said: “In 2019, the safety team will be undertaking some great projects, including training focussed on workplace transport, noise and vibration, as well as coaching staff to manage and own their own safety.

“I’m really looking forward to sharing my enthusiastic approach to health and safety, communicating key messages effectively and, above all, being part of a company that values safety as highly as it does.”
