Moody’s driving forward apprenticeship agenda as MD ‘gets behind the wheel’

Caroline Moody

Caroline Moody, Managing Director of Moody Logistics, is ‘practicing what she preaches’ after passing her HGV qualification, at a time when the company is driving forward the futures of young transport apprentices.

Complementing Caroline’s qualification, the transport and warehousing business has welcomed Driver Apprentice Alex Skelton to the team and is also investing in the career progression of Matthew Davis.

Matthew, who has worked as a semi-skilled labourer at Moody’s sister company, Heathline Commercials, for more than a year, will now study towards his HGV mechanic apprenticeship. Matthew’s apprenticeship will be the third that Heathline has supported and the business is now recruiting for someone to fill Matthew’s vacated position.

After recognising that Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) driving apprenticeships are not commonly found in the transport and logistics industry, Moody Logistics began recruiting apprentices in 2015.

Two recent apprentices, Dean Dodd and Steven Hansen, who completed their apprenticeships as HGV Drivers with Moody Logistics, have remained in full-time employment with the company as Class 1 and Class 2 Drivers, respectively.

Across the group, Moody Logistics has supported and is currently supporting eight apprenticeships, which includes Supply Chain Logistics apprentice, Rhys Common, and Matthew Fretwell, who is studying towards a Business Management apprenticeship within MCR Services, another of Moody’s sister businesses.

Caroline said: “Our group of companies are committed to the career progression of youngsters and presenting people with the opportunity to earn a skilled job for life. We have continued to invest in creating unique apprentices, which have greatly supported our transport and logistics operation, with many of our newly-qualified apprentices securing permanent positions with the company.

“Dean and Steven are perfect examples of this, and I am hoping this positivity will continue with our current cohort of apprentices, who are perfectly positioned for success at the heart of our operations.”

Caroline added: “The industries which we operate in are largely male-dominated, or at least that is the perception of most people, so I was keen to lead by example and go through the rigours of what our dedicated team carry out day in, day out for our customers. I had been thinking about taking the test for some time and am proud to have achieved the qualification and pass the HGV driving test.

“One day you may see me out on the roads in one of our vehicles!”
