New flooring store opens in York

York has become the latest venue for a new type of flooring store which offers shoppers a wide range of flooring – including 25 types of artificial grass – at online prices.

The £100,000, 3,000 square foot Flooring Superstore opened at the Monks Cross Shopping Park recently.

It is the fifth store to open in the UK in 2018, following openings in Swindon, Newport, Keighley and Edinburgh, with more to follow later this year.

Flooring Superstore started life as a purely online business in 2012 but due to its success, the company behind the brand – Connection Retail – then chose to open ‘bricks and mortar’ stores as part of its growth plan.

The new York store sells every type of flooring, including carpets, wood flooring, luxury vinyl tile and artificial grass.
Store Manager Mark Clayton said: “We are delighted to have been able to bring Flooring Superstore to York. It’s a unique concept in that we can offer a one-stop-shop for flooring while maintaining online pricing.”

It was only a year ago that Connection Retail, opened a similar sized store for its Direct Wood Flooring brand on Layerthorpe, York.

Mark added: “The success of our Direct Wood Flooring store was key in us choosing York to open a Flooring Superstore in the city.

“People are now much more selective when it comes to choosing flooring and increasingly you will find they will have a much wider range of flooring options in their homes, so for example they may have wooden flooring in the living room, vinyl in their bathroom and carpet in their bedroom.

“And flooring now doesn’t end in the house; that’s why we have 25 different ranges of artificial grass.

“People are turning to artificial grass because it’s much easier to maintain and it means they don’t need to buy gardening equipment or worry about cutting the grass of weeding every week.

“Instead, they can just enjoy spending leisure time in their garden which is particularly relevant given the current hot spell we are experiencing.”
