Newcastle pharma company rolls out new product

Med-Easy is designed to make swallowing tablets easier

A Newcastle pharmaceutical company has teamed up with Rowlands Pharmacy to roll out a new product nationwide.

Med-Easy is a liquid designed to help make swallowing tablets easier.

It has already received praise from parents in the North East who say the cherry-flavoured swallowing aid makes giving children tablets an easier task.

And now, it’s hoped Med-Easy will reach an even bigger audience from next month thanks to the partnership with Rowlands.

Difficulty swallowing is known by the medical term dysphagia. It can occur due to physical or mental health problems such as stroke, people with cancer, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s and even autism.

It can also affect people who struggle to make the transition from liquid medicine to tablets or capsules, or those who suffer from general pill anxiety.

Peter Batty, general manager of Fargon UK, based in Ouseburn, said: “We know dysphagia can often be a hidden condition, and one which receives little attention.

“It’s for this reason we are really excited to be partnering up with Rowlands to roll Med-Easy out nationwide.

“Parents have told us it has made giving their children tablets an easier task, and carers have given us some really good feedback that it makes administering tablets easier.

“We’re really proud of Med-Easy and think it’s a breakthrough for people who, up to now, have suffered in silence.”

Those who struggle to take tablets whole often crush or chop their pills to make them easier to swallow, but this can often alter how the medicine works and can cause serious side effects.

Mixing medications with certain foods to disguise them or mask the taste can also create problems, as they can react with the medication and stop them from working properly.

Med-Easy is sugar and gluten free and can be used with any tablet or capsule which is normally taken with water.

It is available through Rowlands Pharmacies, Knights Pharmacies and independent pharmacies.
