Greater Manchester’s St Ann’s Hospice has today announced that Professor Jackie Oldham has been appointed as Chair of the hospice’s Board of Trustees.
Jackie, who is Director of Health Innovation for Manchester’s Oxford Road Corridor, and a Global Ambassador for Manchester, joined the hospice as a Trustee in November 2016, and starts her new role as Chair this month.
She said: “Since joining St Ann’s as a Trustee I have grown to love and develop a huge admiration for the organisation. It’s my passionate belief that people with life-limiting illnesses should receive outstanding support that forms part of the whole continuum of life care. St Ann’s has a clear vision of how they see hospice care developing and growing in the next decade, and it’s exciting to be able to play a part in helping a fantastic team transform the quality of life of people from across Greater Manchester.”
St Ann’s, which operates from three sites in Heald Green, Little Hulton and the Neil Cliffe Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, offers care and support to thousands of local people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. It also provides much-needed social and health care support in the local community embracing patients, carers, families and friends.
Jackie added: “It’s a very exciting time for the hospice sector, which is part of the broader healthcare devolution landscape in the city. St Ann’s should be nimble and proactive making the most of new opportunities and building on almost half a century of specialist knowledge and expertise.
“The St Ann’s community stretches far and wide, whether that’s our patients and their loved ones, the supporters who raise money for us, or the staff and volunteers that make the organisation what it is. I’m proud to be a part of this community and I’m looking forward to seeing some incredible developments over the months and years ahead.”
Jackie is a Professor at the University of Manchester and the founder Director of Manchester Improving Medicine with Innovation and Technology (MIMIT), driving innovation to address unmet health and social care need. She is also Honorary Director at the Edward Centre for Healthcare Management Research – part of the Edward Healthcare group of companies established in China with presence in the UK and Asia.
With a PhD in musculoskeletal physiology, Jackie was also the founder director of the Centre for Rehabilitation Science at the University of Manchester. She has served as an invited member on a number of National and International committees, including the NHS Secretary of State’s Advisory Panel for NHS Challenge Prizes and the Medical Research Council (MRC) Translational Research and Stratified Medicine Steering Groups. She currently serves as a member of the MRC Confidence in Concept and Proximity to Discovery Award Committees.
