Yorkshire accountants go the distance

A team from Townends Chartered Accountants pounded the pavements of Hull as they took part in the Asda Foundation Hull 10k.

The nine-strong party from the Yorkshire-based accountants were running to raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, who work to support children’s health and wellbeing initiatives and improve the lives of those with cancer.

Townends have taken part in the event for the last six years following a well timed email from the local Chamber of Commerce, with two members, Partner Adam Cooper and Senior Manager Kevin Murphy, having run every year. In that time 20 different employees have taken part, a real team effort, raising £3200 in the process.

Adam, who started running in 2014 as part of a resolution to get fitter, commented, “Hull really is a great place to run, the crowds are brilliant and fantastically supportive, which helps massively in that last mile of the run when you’re struggling.”
As well as Adam and Kevin, 2019 saw Francesca Hill, Jamie Middleton, Rebecca Almond, Alison Short, Sam Miller, Sophie Kwiatowski and Jennie Cooper run the 6.2miles.

“I’m really proud of everyone who has taken part and helped us raise money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. I find it a great way to gauge my fitness each year as well as being great fun.

“Previously we have held the title for fastest accountants. Unfortunately, we lost that this year, but I’m eager to get it back again.” Adam added.
