Yorkshire online retailer receives national recognition.

Greeting card and gift retailer Love Layla has received national recognition in the Small Awards.

The Pontefract based online retailer won the Digital Star award which celebrates businesses that only trade on the web. The award recognised the use of digital channels to engage customers and innovation in web design.

The Small Awards champion small businesses around the UK and were founded by Michelle Ovens MBE who is behind many national small business campaigns including Small Business Saturday, Do It Digital and F: Entrepreneur.

Owner Stacey Dennis says her tongue in cheek designs are creating a new market for the traditional greeting cards and appealing to a younger shopper.

Stacey Dennis, the owner of Love Layla, said: “As our business continues to grow rapidly it is great to have the hard work of the team recognised in this way. We have built our company by creating memorable moments for our customers, and it was great to win a national award and have our night to remember.”

Love Layla saw sales increase by 72% in the last two years and experienced a record Christmas and Valentine’s Day. The company also recently launched its first franchise in Australia. Top sellers include ‘wrapped in bacon’ wrapping paper and Glitter Shitter cards that dump glitter over unsuspecting recipients.

The company has relied on social media to build an audience and drive sales. It now has over 760,000 followers on social media and sells directly to the consumer through its website and eBay.

Accountancy firm Hentons support Love Layla. Partner Pav Bagri said: “Love Layla is a phenomenally successful business that is expanding thanks to great design and a deep understanding of online channels. The team at Love Layla are great to work with and a shining example of the rewards that come with hard work and perseverance. It is great to see them recognised with national awards.”
