Young Hay & Kilner Solicitors Overcome Ups And Downs Of Yorkshire Three Peaks Charity Walk

A team of intrepid young solicitors from Hay & Kilner Law Firm has risen to the challenge of climbing three of Yorkshire’s highest mountains to raise hundreds of pounds for a Newcastle charity.

The ten-strong team has successfully completed the famous Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, which involves completing a 25 mile route which starts and ends in the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale and goes via the summits of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

Despite having to climb over 2,100m during the walk and even though the warm summer weather made it even tougher than usual, the Hay & Kilner team crossed the finish line comfortably within the allotted 12 hour time limit.

The Yorkshire Three Peaks is the latest in a series of charity challenges that trainee and recently-qualified solicitors with Hay & Kilner have set up for themselves over the last six years, and was undertaken to raise money for The People’s Kitchen, which is the firm’s charity of the year.

More than £860 has been raised through this latest challenge for The People’s Kitchen, which has been supporting homeless and disadvantaged people in the Newcastle area since 1985.

Hay & Kilner has already run a series of other fundraising activities during the first half of the year, including a five-a-side football competition featuring teams drawn from the city’s professional services firms which raised a further £1,500.

Jan Rzedzian, associate solicitor at Hay & Kilner Law Firm and one of the Yorkshire Three Peaks walk organisers, says: “Taking part in this sort of event has become a tradition for our firm’s trainees over the last six years, but with the unexpectedly warm weather adding an extra dimension to it, this was definitely the toughest that we’ve done so far.

“Even though it was really tough going at times, we all genuinely enjoyed the day and loved getting the chance to walk through such beautiful surroundings.

“As well as raising money for a great cause, the challenges we take on have a longer-term benefit for the firm by helping to build strong new bonds between people who volunteer to take on and then complete these tasks together.”
