A generous donation from a Cottingham business owner has helped a dementia care home reach an important fundraising target.
Nicky Fotheringham, landlady of The Tiger Inn pub, recently won £500 in a national ‘Love Your Local’ award. Instead of keeping the money, Nicki donated her prize money to Overton House, run by Hull-based Hica Group.
Staff and residents at Overton House have been fundraising for a summer house since last year, and Nicki’s donation gave them the boost they needed to hit their fundraising target.
Nicki said: “I’ve supported Overton House for a while and I know how hard both staff and residents have worked to raise funds for the summer house. They have fantastic facilities and the work the staff do to support the people they look after is amazing. I hope that the residents enjoy the summer house and I’m pleased that I was able to support them by making the donation.”
Margaret Walker, manager of Overton House said: “Our number one priority across all of the Hica Group is to maintain an excellent standard of care for all of the people we look after. But it’s also about ensuring that residents have a good quality of life with good facilities and equipment, as well as inclusive, person-centred activities.
“Both staff and residents are overwhelmed by Nicki’s selfless donation, which now means that residents have a specific place to go and enjoy the summer weather.”
Alongside Nicki’s donation, staff and residents at Overton also held bake sales, raffles, and even did a Santa fun run to raise funds for the summer house.
Overton House is part of the Hull-based Hica Group, a not for profit organisation which operates a portfolio of 15 care homes across Hull and the East Riding. The company also runs two retirement villages and a homecare service which provides approximately 11,500 hours of support from four regional offices in the north of England.
