Carden Park is set to support this year’s Recycle Week (from 23rd September) which is encouraging people to take action to protect the natural environment.
Carden Park country estate sits within 1000 acres of green Cheshire countryside and is surrounded by natural beauty which motivated the Hotel to become eco-friendlier and reduce its carbon footprint.
To celebrate this year’s Recycle Week which is organised by WRAP*, the hotel is sharing how some changes have helped them manage and improve environmental, social and economic impact from changes to food, waste and water supply.
The recycling of glass, cardboard and food at the hotel goes towards an energy farm to make fuel. The recycling doesn’t stop with waste. The hotel’s water and pool backwash is used for irrigation for the two championship golf courses that surround the hotel. Maintaining these vast golf courses, which offer views of the Welsh hills, using water backwash means they can cut down drastically on water use.
The country Estate’s golf buggies are also designed to keep waste down, by running off lithium batteries, it means 75% of vehicles are electric. Winning ‘England’s Best Golf Hotel’ at the World Golf Awards (and nominated again this year) shows no environmental compromise is made and Carden Park is urging other golf Clubs to do the same.
The independently owned hotel also prides itself on the fact that the on-site restaurants source food from local suppliers. Redmonds Restaurant and The Vines, the two restaurants at Carden Park, use local meat supplier Hamptons, local dairy supplier Gareth Williams and produce supplier Bellis Brothers.
As head chef Harri Williams explains, “I really enjoy supporting local producers because not only does it all taste fantastic, it cuts down the number of miles from farm to plate. Growing up on a farm myself, I understand the work that goes into supplying this kind of organic produce and I’m keen for our guests to enjoy it”
The herb garden and vineyard located at the back of the estate supply guests with herbs and English Sparkling Wine all year round.
