David Wilson Makes Donation To Help Keep Alsager History Alive

David Wilson North West has donated £500 towards the production of a new book which documents Alsager during the Second World War.

When complete, the book, written by local historian Rob Blaney, will detail the importance of the former Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) site in World War II. The site on Manor Farm Road in Alsager used to be home to 1,000 female munitions workers from a nearby factory, who set up a community during the war.

In 1945 when the war was over, The Cheshire Loyal Education Authority built a training college for new teachers on the site to contribute to the gap in teaching staff for Cheshire’s many new schools; this became The Alsager College of Education National Teaching School.

The site first became used for training by the university in 1947 and was closed in 2008, leaving it derelict for the last nine years.

Now, David Wilson Homes and sister company Barratt Homes will be bringing collection of over 400 new homes at two developments – Barratt’s Lloyd Mews development opened recently whilst the David Wilson development, Scholar’s Place will open in 2018.

Rob Blaney has used the donation from David Wilson North West towards the publication of ‘Alsager and District in the Second World War,’ all profits from the sale of books will go directly to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The book contributes towards the preservation of Alsager’s History.

Steve Jackson, Sales Director for David Wilson Homes North West said, “We have donated to this book to show our support that the history of the site is remembered for the great things that took place here all those years ago. It is important that Alsager remembers its poignant history and we hope the legacy will live on in the book.”

Rob Blaney said, “I would like to thank David Wilson Homes for their generosity in making this donation and I am proudly displaying them as a sponsor in the book. I can’t thank them enough. The Alsager branch of Royal British Legion are keen to preserve the legacy of those who did so much for their country.”

The Lloyd Mews development will have a range of three and four bedroom homes priced from £194,995.
