Historic Brigg chapel – and former carpet showroom – up for auction

The former Bourne Primitive Methodist Chapel in Brigg, for sale with Pugh

A grade-II listed former chapel in Brigg town centre is to go under the hammer later this month with a guide price of £178,000. Auction house Pugh is to include the former chapel, which was most recently used as a carpet showroom, in its online auction of properties and parcels of land on 24 April.

The 6,500 sq ft historic building on Bridge Street, which was opened in 1880 as the Bourne Primitive Methodist Chapel, has two storeys, with warehousing to the rear, and is one the North Lincolnshire market town’s few listed buildings.

Will Thompson, Pugh associate director, said: “This is a really attractive historic building in a great location that has great potential for redevelopment. Although the relevant planning consent would need to be obtained, there is a wide range of new uses that would give the property a new lease of life as an asset to Brigg.”

He added: “The town itself is a busy market town and is set to benefit from funding for regeneration initiatives and new employment opportunities via the Towns Fund and other schemes.”
The property housed the shop and showroom of local business AF Carpets until two years ago, when the retailer relocated to premises nearby.

Carl Bradley, director of property agent Clark Weightman, which appointed Pugh to sell the property, said: “We are delighted to bring Pugh on board for the sale of this prominent building in Brigg. We feel that, together with Pugh, we can achieve a strong result for the client and provide an opportunity for the market to acquire and repurpose the building into something that brings value to the local area.”

Bidding on the former chapel, and the other lots in Pugh’s online auction, opens on 26 April and closes the following day.
