Housebuilder and local school children flock together to support wildlife

Primary school children in Golcar have been supporting the local environment by encouraging birds into their school gardens with the help of housebuilder, Barratt Homes.

The Nursery class of Golcar Junior Infant and Nursery School received a special activity pack delivered by Michelle Griffiths-Jones, Sales Adviser at Barratt Homes, containing all of the supplies needed for the children to make their own bird feeders. The pack also contained birdhouses for the school to install, along with RSPB information on how to spot the different species that may visit throughout the year, and how to look after them.

The activity was inspired by RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch, which runs from the 27th to 29th January, and encourages both adults and children to help count local wildlife.

Helen Bisson, Nursery Teacher at Golcar Junior Infant and Nursery School, commented: “We’d like to thank Barratt Homes for putting together the activity packs for the classes. It’s really important that the children learn about local wildlife and how we can help species thrive. The pupils had a lot of fun making their bird feeders and we’re excited to see what kind of birds they will be able to spot throughout the year.”

Dan Hardcastle, Sales Manager at Weavers Chase commented: “Barratt Homes is committed to supporting the environment around the areas in which it builds, and has a lengthy relationship supporting the RSPB. The Big Garden Birdwatch is a great opportunity for us to help Golcar Junior Infant and Nursery School educate the pupils on the importance of looking after our wildlife, and we can’t wait to hear how many birds they see in and around the school grounds.”

Weavers Chase is a collection of three and four bedroom family homes located on a pleasant hillside setting with picturesque surroundings in Golcar. Homes are available to purchase from £199,995.
