McCarthy & Stone move forward with York Chocolate Works

Sketch of proposed McCarthy & Stone Chocolate Works development

McCarthy & Stone has signed a conditional contract to develop part of the Chocolate Works site in York, should the council give it a green light in their Local Plan.

“The site was part of the car park for the former Terry’s Chocolate Factory’s, it is situated between the river and the racecourse in York,” a McCarthy & Stone spokesman said. “Although the site is previously developed, for amenity uses it is classed as greenbelt, but we are hopeful that York Council will continue to support the release development in their forthcoming Local Plan.”

“This is just the sort of site we are always looking for. A site with local amenities and good transport links is ideal and will make the perfect place to retire to.”

The development would see approximately 70 Retirement Living Plus apartments for over 70s. Because most McCarthy & Stone customers move locally, developments like the Chocolate Works free up larger homes in the area for families to move into.
