North East Couple Gear Up for 330-Mile Teenage Cancer Trust Cycling Challenge

A Chester-Le-Street couple is preparing to take part in a 330-mile London to Paris bike ride in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Louise and Terry Ottaway, who both work at Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP (GBLF), will take on the challenge in support of a close friend, Sarah Armstrong, who’s step-son, Oliver Armstrong, passed away, aged just 21, in April 2017 after battling Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Cycling as a team of five, alongside Oliver’s step-mum, Louise and Terry hope to raise £8,250 in Oliver’s memory as they complete the challenge next month, which will see them cycle from Crystal Palace in London to the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Oliver, a former law student at Northumbria University, was supported throughout his illness by the Teenage Cancer Trust, which also provided support to his family and friends following his passing.

Louise said: “It means the world to us to be able to support our close friends in this bike ride in memory of Oliver, who was such an inspiration. The Teenage Cancer Trust has supported Oliver’s family and friends enormously, so Terry and I wanted to show our appreciation by taking part in the charity bike ride.

“Our team has done a fantastic job so far in raising funds in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust, but every donation is greatly received and will assist the charity and the excellent work it does to help young people diagnosed with cancer.”

Terry added: “Louise and I are keen cyclists and have previously completed the C2C cycle ride with our 9-year-old daughter Millie, so we are honoured to be taking on this next challenge in Oliver’s memory, whilst raising as much money and awareness as possible.”

The Teenage Cancer Trust supports teenagers with cancer, as well as those closest to them, throughout the duration of their illness, providing life-changing care to young people and ensuring they don’t need to face the illness alone.

To support Louise and Terry as they cycle from London to Paris, donations can be made on their team’s Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sarah-armstrong31.
