South Tyneside based, Environmental Sensing Solutions manufacturer, Envirowatch is developing innovative new IOT (Internet of Things) technology with ambitions to further its global growth.
In 2011, the business was the first to enter the market with the E-MOTE, an innovative and cost-effective device that monitors pervasive air quality and noise pollution.
Eight years on, the South Shields business has successfully sold in excess of 700 of its real-time, wireless units to organisations across the globe and also developed smart devices using knowledge gained along the way to monitor water levels (HydroMOTE) and noise pollution (NoiseMOTE).
Networks of the connected devices are currently in use by major players in the highways and telecommunications industries and local government in locations ranging from airports, motorways and train stations to major cities across the UK and internationally.
Envirowatch is now looking to the future with the launch of its new multipurpose, real-time environmental monitoring modular device. The business has ambitions to become market leaders with the MultiMOTE and establish new national and international partnerships.
The new equipment monitors a range of environmental parameters including air pollution, noise pollution and water levels and transmits this data using the latest in communication protocols. The data collected can be used to shape real-time decision making and is delivered to clients over the internet, via an API (Application Programming Interface).

Our initial device was developed at Newcastle University and our design and manufacturing base is here in South Tyneside. The majority of our components from our battery packs, solar panels and printed circuit boards to the product assembly are all sourced from within the region.
“The market for connected IoT devices is forecast to skyrocket in the next five to 10 years. With an increasing demand to tackle pollution, our devices enable clients to have the real-time knowledge they need in order to implement meaningful and impactful change.”
Envirowatch is conscious of its own environmental responsibilities and design its devices to be small, unobtrusive and make use of solar power wherever possible.
The company moved into One Trinity Green, in South Shields, in 2012 after winning a competition which saw them receive one year’s free accommodation, a £5000 grant and Invest South Tyneside professional business support.
