South Yorkshire Schoolchildren Prescribed a Day’s Work at the GP

Pupils from three Barnsley secondary schools have been given a rare chance to go behind-the-scenes to find out what it takes to run a busy GP surgery, in a bid to prepare them for life outside of the classroom. The day-long event was organised by Made In Barnsley, a programme which forges meaningful relationships between local industries and schools, to offer an exciting and progressive model of work experience for students. The latest in a series of specialist workshops saw students shadow GPs and improve their understanding of the healthcare sector: they came away nursing newfound medical ambitions.
