Select Bag Sealers welcomes Leeds MP

Select Bag Sealers were pleased to welcome Leeds North West MP Alex Sobel to their Yeadon-based factory last month.

Mr Sobel, who was elected Labour/Co-op MP for Leeds North West in June 2017 following five years with Leeds City Council as councillor for Moortown ward, spoke with directors and staff at Select Bag Sealers regarding issues faced by Yorkshire businesses.

Touring the factory, Mr Sobel commented: “It is great to see local businesses thriving and expanding despite the current financial uncertainty facing the UK. I was very impressed to hear about Select bag sealers expansion into developing markets around the world.”

“It’s great to see the manufacturing industry is alive and well in Yeadon, creating jobs and opportunities for local people.”

As a local employer, with over 40 staff across the Leeds area, Select Bag Sealers is constantly exploring the best ways to expand its workforce, including apprenticeships.
Simon Browning, Select Bag Sealers managing director, said: “With such an international workforce it was great to hear from Alex about his thoughts on local employment and training issues facing the area both right now and in the future.”

Before he was elected, Alex helped set up the UK’s first ever climate change committee in Leeds and has since called for the city to be the first in the UK to commit to World Health Organisation targets for air quality.
