South Yorkshire PR firm collects brace of industry awards

The Capital B Media team

A South Yorkshire public relations and media training agency has been crowned the best small consultancy in Yorkshire.

Capital B Media collected the gold award in the Outstanding Small Consultancy category at last night’s Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) PRide Awards for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The company has seen turnover increase by a third in last financial year and has recruited a new member of staff to work solely on video content.

The firm also won gold in the Best Publication category. The award recognised Capital B Media’s work with national charity the Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK’s Emphasis magazine. The firm produces the A4 52-page publication, which is published four times a year and distributed to a 3,500-strong membership base.

Capital B Media, based in Millhouse Green near Penistone in Barnsley, collected the awards at the ceremony at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds. The company has consistently been recognised for its work in the past three years, winning four golds and one silver since 2017.

Director of Capital B Media Kate Betts said: “Winning gold for small consultancy is an outstanding achievement and is testament to the brilliant team at Capital B Media. Everyone has worked really hard to achieve this. The company has done exceptionally well in the past year and this award feels like recognition for that.

“The PR industry is constantly changing so it’s fantastic to see that the way we’re working with our clients is keeping us among the top agencies in the UK. And to win gold for the magazine we produce for a national charity is great for us and the charity too.”

The CIPR Pride Awards received nearly 1,000 entries from public relations teams, consultancies and individuals across the UK.

David Glanville, Chair of CIPR Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, said: “Really well done to everyone who won or was shortlisted, it’s a great achievement.

“Evenings like this aren’t just an opportunity to demonstrate the talent in our industry locally though, they’re also a chance to show the strength of the profession and the value we provide to our clients through strategic communications and reputation management.”

Capital B Media was set up by former BBC journalist Kate Betts in 2006 and offers communications services including media relations, social media management, video production, copywriting, media training and crisis communications support.

It has built up a portfolio of clients from the public, private and third sectors, across the north and the UK.
