A Yorkshire-based gin and whisky distillery has announced that it is sponsoring a duo of local charity events this week with a donation of its inaugural gin.
Based in Sutton-on-the-Forest, Cooper King Distillery is sponsoring the Dean’s Banquet at Ripon Cathedral, as well as Taylors of Harrogate’s ‘Night at the Oscars’ charity black-tie ball, which are both taking place on 28th September.
The start-up distillery launched its inaugural product, Cooper King Dry Gin, earlier this year and will provide both events with gin for the evening for guests to enjoy.
Established in 2016 by co-founders Chris Jaume, a chartered architect and Dr Abbie Neilson, a former scientist, Cooper King Distillery holds collaboration at the heart of the company and works actively to support local initiatives.
Abbie Neilson commented:
“We’re thrilled to have been asked to sponsor two fantastic local events with donations of Cooper King Dry Gin. We are passionate about doing all we can to support local charities, businesses and events and are delighted to be on board with the Deans Banquet and the Night at the Oscars which are both raising funds for important local causes.”
Born in 1843, Chris’s great-great-grandfather, Charles Cooper King, Lieutenant Colonel of the Royal Marine Artillery, traced the Cooper King family history back to Yorkshire to the year 1030. He identified his ancestors as the Pigot family, who have rich historical ties with Ripon cathedral. The Pigot shield depicting 3 warhammers, which also forms part of the Cooper King logo, can be seen carved into the stonework of the picturesque cathedral in recognition of the families contribution to its construction hundreds of years ago.
The Dean’s Banquet is an annual evening of fine dining and entertainment hosted within the cathedral. The prestigious event raises money for Ripon Cathedral Renewed, supporting the Dean’s development plans for a 21st Century Yorkshire Cathedral last year raising a total of £25000. Cooper King will be sponsoring the drinks reception, providing cocktails for guests on arrival.
Chris Jaume commented:
“It’s a real honour to have been asked to sponsor the Dean’s Banquet this year. Our brand is inspired by my heritage, which was painstakingly researched by my great-great-grandfather. We can’t wait to see our gin being presented and enjoyed in a building which holds so much meaning to my family and to Cooper King Distillery.”
The company is also sponsoring Taylors of Harrogate’s ‘Night at the Oscar’s black-tie ball, which is raising money for the York Special Care Baby Unit Support Group, a charity which provides relief and care for sick new-born babies.
Founded by Charles Taylor and sons in 1886, Taylors of Harrogate manufactures tea and coffee products using the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients. The company is responsible for numerous established brands, such as Yorkshire Tea.
The Night at the Oscars, which is taking place at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Harrogate, promises an evening of glitz and glamour, with Cooper King Dry Gin on every table for guests to enjoy.
