A Leeds accountancy and business advisory firm has raised over £1,600 for Leeds Mind through team-led fundraising with colleagues organising quizzes, bake sales, games, a football match and golf day to support the local mental health charity. The team at Saffery in Leeds nominated Leeds Mind as its chosen charity and the fundraising programme has been designed to bring colleagues together across the departments within the Wellington Place office.
Audit Assistant, Hannah Whitworth-Debney, has helped spearhead the activity.
Hannah said: “A sense of community and having a common goal within work is important to people’s wellbeing and morale, and that’s what these events have centred around. It’s been really nice to see people try things they might never normally do all whilst supporting Leeds Mind.”
Corporate and Events Fundraiser, Marie-Louise Robinson, said: “We’re so grateful to everyone at Saffery in Leeds for choosing to support Leeds Mind as their local charity through Saffery’s Helping Build Sustainable Futures social impact strategy.
“From an initial donation to fundraising activities including pub quizzes, a novelty jumper day, a football tournament, a bake sale and the recent golf day, the team has shown a real commitment to supporting mental health in our local community.
“Beyond fundraising, the team has also committed their time and skills to supporting our work. This includes volunteering at our events and plans to maintain the gardens at our Clarence House premises, helping to create a welcoming and calming space for the people who use our services.
“We’re hugely thankful for the enthusiasm, generosity and community spirit the team has shown throughout the partnership. Their support is helping us continue delivering vital services and making sure people across Leeds and West Yorkshire can access mental health support when they need it most.”
Tax Partner Chris Luckett, of the Leeds office at Saffery, said: “The fundraising has created an opportunity for colleagues at different levels and across different teams to work together all in aid of a fabulous local charity. People have been keen to get involved and we really appreciate everything Hannah has done to lead these fundraising initiatives.
“We were particularly pleased to have raised £650 at our recent Saffery Golf Day at Rudding Park in Harrogate, where 45 guests joined us for a great day, which also helped bolster the total we have raised for Mind so far this year.”
Alongside its fundraising for Leeds Mind, members of the Leeds office have also supported other local causes, with colleagues having a collection for Leeds North & West Foodbank and a clothing collection for Smart Works Leeds, which provides interview clothing and coaching to help women facing barriers to employment. Saffery colleagues have also supported Leeds Hospitals Charity through the office’s wider charitable activity. Colleagues have also volunteered for a litter-picking session around Wellington Place.
The office is continuing to develop its programme of fundraising and volunteering, with further opportunities planned over the coming months that will combine fundraising with volunteering and activities that promote connection, wellbeing and community.
