BG Engineering Gears Up With Pentag Acquisition

BG Engineering, a leading subcontractor for precision machined components, has acquired Pentag Gears and Oilfield Equipment Ltd; a designer and manufacturer of high quality gearing.

The acquisition forms part of BG Engineering’s strategic growth plans and will enable it to extend its range of machining services to existing customers and develop new market opportunities in gear cutting.

Sheffield-based Pentag, which has been operating for more than 100 years, will relocate to BG Engineering’s premises in Holmewood, Chesterfield. Pentag Directors Martin Wragg, Andrew Larkin and its four other members of staff will transfer to BG Engineering’s extensive Chesterfield site in the coming months.

Marie Cooper, Financial Director at Cooper Brown Enterprises – which owns BG Engineering, said: “Pentag has built its reputation on over a century of high quality manufacturing expertise in bespoke gearing projects. There are great synergies between the two businesses, which are both focused on the machining of often quite complex, bespoke products. Pentag will benefit from being part of a larger group with added value management expertise to support the company’s technical capabilities, with a view to driving forward business growth.”

She adds: “The acquisition means we will be increasing our machining capacity and offering shorter lead times, which will enhance our service to customers.”

Cooper Brown Enterprises (CBE), owned by Marie Cooper and Chris Brown, invested in BG Engineering in 2017. BG Engineering is also co-owned by Managing Director, Anthony Holmes and Business Development Director Shane Greveson. In August 2017, CBE also acquired a controlling stake in NiTEC Engineering Ltd and Spire Laboratories.

From its beginnings in 1988, BG Engineering has become one of the region’s leading sole CNC machining company, with more than 30 staff including four apprentices and 18 CNC machines, boasting customers located across the UK and Europe.

Over the past 30 years, the company has elevated itself into one of the leading precision engineers in the region. Through strategic and customer driven investment BG Engineering has built relationships with some of the largest global OEM’s in the energy industry.

BG Engineering prides itself on its approach to quality and inspection. The company is ISO 9001 accredited and is focused on continual improvement by having its own in-house inspection department to ensure that all parts reach the customer ‘right first time.’

BG Engineering is also currently working towards securing AS9100 accreditation to become an approved aerospace supplier.
