DIY SOS’s Mark Millar returning to East Yorkshire’s biggest construction event this October

Foundations Live 2019 will take place at Bishop Burton College's Equine Arena

The Humber region’s biggest co-located construction trade and careers event will be returning to Bishop Burton College in October, backed by BBC DIY SOS’s Mark Millar.

Foundations Live, a networking trade show combined with an interactive careers event for people of all ages, will return to Bishop Burton College’s Equine Arena on Wednesday October 2nd, hosting construction professionals and students from across the Humber region and beyond. Created and hosted by Hobson & Porter, the event is now in its fourth year and continues to grow in popularity and size.

To celebrate the return of the event, a new website has been launched, where visitors and exhibitors can register to attend for free.

Mark Millar, project manager of popular TV programme DIY SOS, is an ambassador for the event, having previously hosted a lively panel debate at the 2018 edition. Mark will continue to work with Hobson & Porter and partners of the Foundations initiative to promote awareness of the construction sector and the career opportunities it holds in the build-up to the event, which is free to attend and exhibit at.

Mark said: “I first got involved in the Foundations initiative last year, when I hosted and took part in a panel debate at Bishop Burton College. It was great to see people from all corners of the industry coming together to discuss the big issues we are facing as a sector, which are a growing skills shortage and an ageing workforce.

“Our aim for the event is to raise awareness and change people’s perceptions to show there are hundreds of career options available in construction, from planners and architects to landscape gardeners, and everything in between. The only way we will tackle the shortage and bring the next generation into the workplace is to work together; SMEs, governing bodies, education providers, everyone must come together to show people the exciting opportunities available in this fantastic line of work.

“I’m proud to be back on board and working with Hobson & Porter, Bishop Burton College and all of the partner organisations hosting Foundations Live 2019. Together we can make a real difference to the sector and create a model for others in the industry to follow.”

Foundations Live 2019 will take place Wednesday October 2nd at Bishop Burton College. To register as a visitor or for companies wishing to exhibit visit the Foundations Live website.
