A new film documenting the history of the Cavern Club nightclub, created by Liverpool-based LA Factual, is set for its first airing on UK television this weekend on Sky Arts.
‘The Cavern Club: The Beat Goes On’ will broadcast at 10pm this Saturday (September 7th) on Sky and Virgin Media Channel 122.
The new standalone documentary was created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the famous Liverpool music venue, known to most as the home of the Beatles. It is narrated by Liverpool-born actor Paul McGann and features interviews with those linked closest to the Cavern Club including Sir Paul McCartney. It also features never before seen footage of the club through the years.
The film has already received international acclaim where it was shown at multiple film festivals across America. It was given top billing at BritWeek in Los Angeles earlier this year, an annual event celebrating the very best of British talent in the industry. It is also set to be screened at international documentary festival, Doclisboa, in Portugal next month.
LA Factual worked with the Cavern Club over the last two and half years to create the documentary, speaking to over 20 people of interest and sifting through thousands of hours of archive footage.
Staff at LA Factual produced more than 40 hours of content all of which was cut down to make the 70 minute mark. The team travelled the length of the country throughout filming with parts also filmed in Paris.

Jon Keats, director of the Cavern Club and co-director of the film, added: “There have been several films made over the years about the Cavern, usually focusing on the Beatles period. This is the definitive documentary of a legendary Liverpool venue, made by a Liverpool company. We are delighted with the end result.”
The documentary will be repeated throughout the week.
It will also be available to stream on Sky Demand, Now TV and other catch up services after its airing.
