Fusco’s of Whitby, the family owned business behind four of Yorkshire’s leading fish and chips restaurants and takeaways, has been shortlisted as one of the UK’s top chains of fish and chip shops, as part of the prestigious 2020 National Fish & Chip Awards.
Shortlisted for Best Multiple Fish and Chip Operator Award, Fusco’s of Whitby is just one of three companies to be in the running for the accolade, organised by Seafish; the Non-Departmental Public Body which aims to improve efficiency and raise standards across the seafood industry.
Competing against Sutton and Sons in London and Daniels Fish and Chips in Dorset, Fusco’s of Whitby, which has been operating in the town for more than fifty years, is the only Northern based business to make the final.

We are honoured to be competing against two other fantastic businesses and we look forward to meeting them in January for the final.”
To make the shortlist each business had to submit a written award entry, which once judged was followed by a visit from a mystery diner to at least three of its fish and chip shops. Here a number of elements that make a successful fish and chips business were assessed from the quality of the food and customer service, to sustainable sourcing policies. Menu development and innovation, staff training policies and processes and wider marketing and promotional activity were also carefully reviewed.
Over the coming weeks the three businesses will be judged again for consistency in their product and customer service across each of its multiple sites, before the winner is revealed at the awards ceremony in London in January 2020.
