Healthy Investment, the mutually owned provider of with-profits investments based in Bury, Great Manchester, is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week, which takes place from 3-9 February 2020, by embarking on a search for its next apprentice. The friendly society has regularly employed apprentices in the past, a number of whom have gone on to enjoy permanent careers with the organisation.
Hailing National Apprenticeship Week, chief executive Peter Green said, “We have a long tradition of using apprentices and some of our best staff have come through the scheme, including Jerrol Ainsworth, Sam Williams and Khadija Ahmed, who are still working for us. Now we want to give another local individual the opportunity to kick-start a career in financial services.
“It has been so rewarding to see how the apprentices we have recruited have been transformed from nervous school and college leavers into financial professionals who are confident and knowledgeable when dealing with investors and financial advisers. We have also seen them grow up and transition into home-owning, responsible adults – most of the time!”
Jerrol Ainsworth, who has himself been tasked with recruiting the next Healthy Investment apprentice, was recently promoted to the position of membership manager, having joined as an apprentice in January 2020. He is responsible for more than 110,000 members, for whom the 185-year-old friendly society manages investment totalling more than £176 million.
Sam Williams, another former apprentice, joined Healthy Investment in November 2011, and currently works as a business development executive, looking after relationships with financial advisers. This is a technical role and Mr Williams, who has continued to study following the completion of his apprenticeship, now holds a number of qualifications awarded by the Chartered Insurance Institute.
A more recent addition to the team is Khadija Ahmed, who began her apprenticeship in April 2015, and has been with Healthy Investment ever since. She currently works as a membership administrator, answering members’ questions about ISAs, Junior ISAs, Investment Bonds and Savings Plans.
All three joined Healthy Investment through the apprenticeship scheme run through Bury College.
