Accounting and business advisory firm HURST has welcomed back tax specialist David Reynolds as a partner in a newly created role to support its growing client base. David spent four years at HURST as a senior tax manager from 2011 to 2015. He has rejoined HURST from Altrincham-based TACS, where he was a director. His expertise spans succession planning, business restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, capital gains tax and inheritance tax.
Liz Gallagher, head of HURST’s tax team, said: “David is highly experienced, with extensive knowledge across a wide range of taxes, specialising in advising owner-managed and family businesses. “As our client base continues to grow and their tax affairs become increasingly complex, David’s experience will be invaluable in strengthening our advisory team. His appointment will help ensure we continue to provide the high-quality, commercially focused advice our clients need. “David worked with us several years ago, so it is particularly pleasing to welcome him back. He knows the firm and our approach to looking after clients, and I am confident he will make a significant contribution to the team.”
The appointment is part of HURST’s wider investment in its tax team and services and follows the arrival of Ellen Feetum in 2025 to lead a new corporation tax compliance offering. Senior manager Kevin Martin joined her team later last year and Kate Oakes was appointed as a manager earlier this year.
David said: “Over the past 15 years, my focus has been on advising owner-managed businesses, building relationships and helping them navigate the tax challenges they face as they grow and evolve. “It’s great to be back at HURST. In some ways, it feels as though I’ve never been away. The practice has grown significantly and moved into excellent new office space, but there are many familiar faces and clients.
“Meeting with Liz and the other partners during the interview process made it clear that, even though the firm has expanded considerably over the last 11 years, it has maintained its strong culture and focus on its people. “I’ve always seen HURST as ambitious and willing to stand out from the crowd. Joining Dains Group feels like a natural next step for the firm, and it’s exciting to return at this stage and play a part in HURST’s next chapter.”
HURST specialises in advising three core client segments – owner-managed businesses, private equity-backed enterprises and UK subsidiaries of overseas parent companies. Clients include SJM Concerts, Kinaxia Logistics, M&I Materials, Beechfield Brands, Duerr’s, Oliver Valves, Lancashire County Cricket Club, Krones UK, Creamline Dairies, Scapa Industrial and Hyde Group.
Stockport-headquartered HURST became part of the Dains Group earlier this year, strengthening the resources and expertise available to its clients across the UK and internationally. Dains is a national accountancy and business advisory firm with 30 locations across the UK and Ireland.
HURST is targeting ambitious growth over the coming years, with plans to double in size to reach £20m in annual turnover in 2028. Its strategy includes expanding its national client base, recruiting additional talent and introducing new service lines, supported by a multimillion-pound investment in technology.
