Northumberland’s largest independent holiday cottage letting agency; Northumbria Coast & Country Cottages, is celebrating the arrival of their one millionth guest after 38 years of welcoming holidaymakers to the county.
The millionth guest family, who were visiting with their Springer Spaniel Titus on a two-week break to Alnmouth from West Yorkshire, were met by the Northumbria Coast & Country Cottages team upon arrival and showered with locally sourced artisan gifts.
This milestone visit marks the fourteenth time the family have holidayed with Northumbria Coast & Country Cottages, after choosing to return to Northumberland each year. The family have said they cite the friendly local staff as the main reason they choose to regularly stay with Northumbria Coast & Cottages.
Among their favourite memories of the region are “blustery walks on the spotless beaches with our Springer Spaniel Titus”, “crabbing in Beadnell on the harbour” and “walking to Boulmer on a gorgeous sunny day and sitting on top of the cliffs watching the blue glittering sea.”
Nikki Hough-Johnson, Founder and Managing Director of Northumbria Coast and Country Cottages, is proud that the agency has managed to retain its independent status while expanding their operations within the region, operating two sales offices in Alnmouth and Seahouses and employing a team of 16 locally based staff.

The announcement from the Alnmouth-based holiday cottage letting agency comes at an auspicious time for North East tourism after iconic travel guide Lonely Planet named sixteen North East sights among the top unmissable experiences in their Ultimate United Kingdom Travelist this month.
This news follows the recent announcement of a partnership between The North East LEP, NewcastleGateshead Initiative, the North of Tyne Combined Authority and the North East Combined Authority to promote the region as a must-see destination for tourists.
