Talents and achievements of children to be celebrated across the Wakefield District

The Children of Achievement Awards, which celebrates the talents of young inspirational people from across the Wakefield district, is coming back for a second year when it takes place at Cedar Court Hotel on Saturday 23 June from 7pm – 12.30am.

Building on the success of last year’s event, which welcomed more than 200 business people and raised more than £7,000 for local charities, this year is set to be bigger and better than ever – starting with a champagne reception, followed by three-course meal and entertainment.

As the only event that is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of children in the district, the awards will share the stories of seven brave young people, giving them the recognition they deserve while also raising funds that will be used to support four beneficiaries; the Theatre Royal Wakefield, My Burns Club, Levi Star and The Laila Milly Foundation.

As well as delicious food and drink, guests will be entertained by a fantastic balloon artist and magician, along with singers and dancers before the seven winners are announced and receive certificates on stage.

Ian Taylor, Chairman of WACCL, hosts of the event, said: “We had no idea how successful Children of Achievement would be when we launched the event last year and how generously the business community would donate towards supporting young people within the district.

“That is why we are hosting the celebration for a second year and bringing back the opportunity for us to give young people, that have achieved some great things and who are the inspiration and talents of the future, the recognition that they deserve.

“We are encouraging companies to come forward to sponsor tables and for people to purchase tickets. In addition, we are appealing for anyone who feels they know of a young person who deserves an award to fill in a short application, which will be judged by an independent panel before the winners are announced.”
