The Broadway in Bradford scoops international environmental award

The Broadway, Bradford has been awarded in the Environmental Best Practice category at The International Green Apple Environment Awards.

Competing against more than 500 international nominations, The Broadway was presented with a bronze trophy and certificate in a prestigious ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on Monday (25 November).

The Broadway was awarded for its approach to sustainability and the environment, particularly highlighting that during 2018, the Centre saved £87k on energy versus the same period in 2017, which equates to a reduction of 46%. The Centre follows best practice in waste disposal and the use of chemical substances, plus has an annual agreement with all retailers to ensure there is a zero to landfill approach to waste disposal.

Ian Ward, General Manager at The Broadway, Bradford said: “We are delighted to have been recognized in the very prestigious International Green Apple Environment Awards. The Broadway recognise the huge responsibility to lead by example when it comes to matters surrounding sustainability and the environment, and team work to extremely high standards to ensure the Centre is reducing its carbon footprint.


“The Broadway management team conduct daily back of house checks to ensure all systems are working to optimum efficiency whilst supporting retailers to adhere to the Centre’s energy saving plans. We’re extremely proud of the £87k energy cost saving figure in 2018 verses 2017, and aim to increase the already impressive reduction of 46%.

“The efficiency figures speak for themselves and I’m proud to be part of a team that works so hard to continually improve it green credentials.”

As a result of the International Green Apple Environment Award success, The Broadway has achieved ‘Green World Ambassador’ status and has had its award submission published in The Green Book, the leading international work of reference on environmental best practice.
