Yorkshire Packaging Systems, the UK’s foremost supplier of shrink wrapping equipment, have installed a side sealing unit and shrink tunnel into Universal Supply Chain’s distribution centre in Northampton.
Universal Supply Chain are a leading provider of storage, warehousing, distribution and contract packing solutions, offering a full logistical and fulfilment service to the B2B sector. Owing to the nature of their business, Universal require complete flexibility in their packaging operation in order to wrap a wide variety of products and deliver on many different customer contracts simultaneously.
Having supplied several shrink wrapping machines to Universal Supply Chain over ten years, YPS were perfectly placed to assist the company with further equipment at the beginning of 2019 when they were looking to increase capacity.
The equipment supplied was a Hugo Beck Flexo XE side sealer and shrink tunnel, an identical line to the one previously fitted. With German engineering and a fully automatic configuration, the side sealing equipment provides robust and reliable performance whilst also keeping labour costs down by requiring less operators. Furthermore, the Flexo XE delivers the high level of flexibility that Universal Supply Chain wanted as it offers extremely fast format changeovers on a wide variety of products without the need for any change-parts or downtime.
Since installation, Universal Supply Chain have reaped the rewards of the additional shrink wrapping line; capacity has doubled which has allowed them to secure more contracts as well as complete existing contracts sooner, increasing customer satisfaction.
