Numerous local charities are set to benefit after a leading Yorkshire law firm set out to help 40 good causes in its 40th year of operation.

Law firm Ison Harrison, which was established in Leeds in 1978, is commemorating 40 years of legal services by making a commitment to 40 deserving charities.

Ison Harrison launched the #TheBig40 campaign in June with the aim of helping local good causes in the form of cash donations or gifts made on a nomination basis.

The first twenty good causes have now been revealed and all will benefit equally as part of the initiative.

Fourteen charities based in or with connections to Leeds will receive a donation of £250 each. The charities are Little Hiccups, Charlie’s Angel Centre, Ang ‘n’ Shells, Team Daniel, Memory Lane, Bahar Women’s Association, 1st Pudsey Scout Group, Joanna, Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, The Christmas Dinner Leeds, Sunshine and Smiles, Autism Angels and St Gemma’s Hospice.

The remaining six charities are spread across the region from Goole to Sheffield. A further 20 charities from across the region which will also benefit from the scheme will be announced in December.

The chosen charities were selected following nominations made on a specially created microsite and Ison Harrison’s social media channels. There were 620 nominations in total of which over a quarter were smaller, independent causes.

Ison Harrison employees from the firm’s 12 regional offices were also asked to nominate their own causes.

Jonathan Wearing, managing partner commented: “2018 marks a huge year for Ison Harrison in terms of the growth and success over the past 40 years as well as the contribution made to the regional business community in that time. We felt that for so many deserving causes to be able to share in this was the perfect way to mark such an achievement.

“We wanted to mark our 40th anniversary in an impactful and memorable way and decided that giving back to good causes in the communities we work in was the way to go. We had some genuinely heartfelt suggestions via the nomination scheme which made choosing our final charities from the hundreds which applied very difficult.”

Ison Harrison employs more than 210 staff across twelve offices, including its head office on Wellington Street in Leeds which is home to the firm’s business and personal legal service teams. Each of the twelve offices specialises in residential conveyancing, wills and probate and family law as well as providing a convenient access point for clients wanting advice from an expert in any of the other legal services offered by the firm.

Since its foundation in 1978 as S.C. Harrison & Co. Solicitors by Stephen Harrison in Leeds, the firm has helped thousands of clients. Ison Harrison now assists more than 16,000 people every year and looks after wills for over 40,000 clients. As well as being Lexcel accredited the firm has the greatest number of Law Society Accreditations in West Yorkshire.
