A landmark former Methodist chapel in the Woodhouse area of Sheffield is set to go up for auction this month, with a guide price of £125,000.
The imposing Grade II-listed sandstone church on Chapel Road dates back to 1878 and was built in a grand Italianate style. It will feature in the next online property auction held by Mark Jenkinson, part of Eddisons, on 28 January.
Set within a 0.16-acre site with surrounding gardens, the two-storey building extends to around 2,300 sq ft and retains a wealth of original architectural features, both internally and externally. Previous proposals to create a mezzanine floor and eight apartments were refused on appeal.
Mark Jenkinson director Adrian Little said: “This is a striking and historically significant building that will appeal to buyers looking for a character property with real presence. Although planning consent has previously been refused, the church offers considerable scope for a sensitive alternative use, subject to the necessary consents, and we expect strong interest in this landmark property.”
He added: “Properties as well preserved as this one come up for sale quite rarely, particularly with such a competitive guide price. We anticipate interest from a broad range of bidders, including developers, investors and those looking to secure a unique building with strong architectural and heritage credentials.”
Bidding on the former church opens on 27 January and closes the following day.
