One of the North East’s long-standing family charitable trusts has announced a new name as it enters its next chapter. Previously known as the LGA Foundation, the organisation will now be known as The Reece Family Trust, reflecting its long-term ambitions and the growing involvement of the Reece family.
Founded by Sue Reece and John Reece MBE, the Trust supports grassroots charities and community organisations improving health, wellbeing and opportunities across Tyneside and South Northumberland through flexible grant funding and long-term partnerships.
Although the Trust has a new name, its mission remains exactly the same. Founded by Sue Reece and John Reece MBE, the organisation was originally named after the initials of their three kids – Lauren, Greg and Ali. As the family has grown to include a new generation of grandchildren, the change to The Reece Family Trust reflects the family’s enduring commitment to philanthropy and their ambition to create a lasting legacy for communities across the North East. Existing grants, funding priorities and charitable objectives are unaffected.
Since its creation, the Trust has invested in organisations tackling food poverty, improving mental health, supporting carers, creating opportunities for children and young people, protecting green spaces and strengthening local communities. Alongside its work across the North East, it has also supported international humanitarian projects, including aid for Ukraine and youth initiatives in Hong Kong.
John Reece MBE said, “When Sue and I established the Trust, it came from a simple belief that if you’ve been fortunate enough to succeed, you have a responsibility to give something back.
“Changing our name doesn’t change who we are or why we exist, it just reinforces the fact that this has always been a our family endeavour and signals our commitment to supporting communities for generations to come.”
Sue Reece added, “We’ve been privileged to meet so many remarkable charities and community organisations over the years. Their passion, resilience and commitment inspire us every day.
“As The Reece Family Trust, we’re excited to build on everything we’ve achieved together and continue investing in projects that improve lives across the North East.”
Current projects include funding a major expansion at Footsteps Nursery in Benwell, creating a new woodland in Prudhoe, investing in community green spaces and continuing to fund organisations delivering mental health support, education, youth development, sport and much more.
Applications for funding continue to operate through the Trust’s rolling grants programme.
