Leeds city centre’s waterfront will come alive at the end of this month when Brewery Wharf hosts its first ever Summer Social Community Celebration and family fun weekend.
Taking place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August from 12pm to 9pm, the two-day event will bring together local businesses, community organisations, residents and visitors for a weekend of family entertainment, live music and activities on the waterfront.
Hosted by Brewery Wharf Tavern, The 212 Cafe & Bar, Café YumYum and Latitude Wine, the celebration will feature live bands, DJs, samba, face painting, children’s games, ice cream and barbecues, alongside a spritz bar from Latitude.
There will also be an after-party with DJs at 212 for those looking to continue the celebrations into the evening.
Local community organisations Holbeck Together and Getting Clean will also be attending, providing an opportunity for visitors to meet organisations working with and supporting people in communities across the area.
The event is being supported by Rushbond Plc, which owns Brewery Wharf, and organisers hope the weekend will become an annual fixture and the first of many community events on the waterfront.
Stuart Dixon, from 212, said: “Brewery Wharf is a fantastic part of Leeds city centre that often feels like one of the city’s best-kept secrets. This event will bring people together and showcase everything that makes the waterfront so special.
“The weekend is about having fun, supporting local businesses and community organisations, and giving people a reason to come down and enjoy Brewery Wharf. We’re hoping this is the beginning of something that grows year after year and becomes a real fixture in the Leeds calendar.”
Adam Warner, from Brewery Wharf Tavern, added: “Everyone in Leeds has their favourite part of the city centre to socialise in, but Brewery Wharf is very different to every other corner of Leeds. It’s always been closed off to cars, it’s full of great independent businesses, it has a relaxed atmosphere and it’s the beating heart of the waterfront, which all makes it a great place to eat, drink, socialise and relax.
“There’s a real community around Brewery Wharf with countless regulars who visit all the time. We want to celebrate this, while also welcoming first-time visitors and those who usually head elsewhere to socialise.
“There will be something for everyone across the two days, from live music and DJs to children’s activities, food and drink. Most importantly, we want people to come along and have a great time in this unique part of Leeds.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make the event happen and we hope it will be the first of many celebrations here.”
The Brewery Wharf Summer Social Community Celebration takes place on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August, from 12pm to 9pm. Admission is free.
