Yorkshire vehicle-hire firm set to celebrate 30 years in business

Yorkshire’s largest independent vehicle hire firm, Arrow Self Drive, is proud to announce that it is entering its 30th year of business.

The company is planning a series of celebration events in 2018 to mark the milestone year.

Arrow Self Drive was founded in 1988 by businessmen Robert Hill and Chris Taylor, with the partners initially selling commercial vehicles to local businesses from a garage on Manchester Road in Huddersfield. Today, the business is run by Robert’s son, James Hill.

Over the past thirty years, Arrow Self Drive has grown to become Yorkshire’s largest independent vehicle hire firm, with a fleet of more than 2,000 rental vehicles and more than 80 staff across the region.

To mark its 30th birthday, the company will be hosting a number of celebration events throughout 2018, including a charity fundraiser in the summer as well as a series of parties at each of the business’s Yorkshire depots.

On the 30th of June 2018, the “A Team Challenge”, a charity fundraising event, will see participants from Arrow Self Drive take part in a 162-mile trip around the business’s Yorkshire sites, a journey that will take 32 hours.

Teams comprising of staff, their families, suppliers, customers and friends of the business will start at the Hull depot and complete legs of the journey with the aim of visiting each one of Arrow Self Drive’s depots, finishing at its headquarters in Huddersfield.

Team members can choose between walking one or more of the 3-mile stages with an option for participants to complete the entire 75-mile walking section of the challenge. In addition to this, two teams will complete an 87-mile cycle section of the challenge. Money will be raised by sponsoring teams to complete the stages. Proceeds will be split between eight different charities, with one being chosen by each of the eight depots.

In August, Arrow Self Drive will also be hosting a series of birthday celebrations at each of its depots. The 30th birthday open days will be free for all customers, suppliers and stakeholders. Attendees will have chance to meet the local Arrow Self Drive teams and see the latest range of vehicles in the business’s fleet. Celebration lunches will be provided and attendees will be presented with anniversary goodie bags, as well as a business card raffle with lots of prizes to win.

James Hill, managing director of Arrow Self Drive, commented:

“We are delighted to be celebrating our 30th year in business and are proud of our history and the journey we have come on to get to this milestone. The business started off from small beginnings back in the 1980’s and it is a testament to all of our staff, past and present, and their hard work that we have grown to become Yorkshire’s largest independent vehicle hire firm.

“We are excited to embark on another successful year of growth and celebrating our 30th birthday. There are a whole host of fantastic events lined up this year to mark our birthday and we look forward to sharing the celebrations with all of our staff, their families and our customers.”

Founding partner, Robert Hill, commented:

“It’s a fantastic achievement for Arrow Self Drive to celebrate 30 years in business. The business has come a long way since the 1980s, back then we had no computers, no internet, no mobile phones and many deals were verbally reached and agreed with a handshake. A lot has changed since then but I am proud that James has maintained one thing that remains the same – the business’s commitment to treating people right – that is with respect and fairness.”
