Housebuilder Bellway has donated £500 towards the installation of a new kitchen and new programme of cookery skills activities for 1st Rhosnesni Scouts in Wrexham.
With two superb residential developments taking shape in Wrexham, Bellway was happy to help the Scouts who meet regularly at the hut on Dean Road which backs onto Bellway’s Holt Vale development.
Attracting boys and girls from age four to age 15 from all areas of Wrexham, 1st Rhosnesni Scouts has been established for many years and is a key part of the local community.
With the hut turning 100 years old this year, many of the facilities, including the kitchen and some of the kitchen equipment, are in need of upgrading or replacing, and the Scouts have been actively fundraising across the local area to update them.
Bellway’s contribution has started the ball rolling, with other local businesses pledging support, and the Scouts hope to be in a position to update the kitchen before the end of the year.
Group lead volunteer at 1st Rhosnesni Scouts Sam Roberts commented: “We are so grateful to Bellway for the kind donation towards the kitchen upgrade. The hut is a great base for our regular Scout meets, but is getting very old and the kitchen is no longer fit for purpose so we really need to replace it.
“Updating it with something more modern, functional and safe, will also give us the opportunity to use the area for some food tech and cookery skills activities with the Scouts, introducing them to kitchen safety and showing them how to make some simple dishes. We’re really looking forward to finalising the kitchen project and thank Bellway for the valued donation.”
Sales director at Bellway North West, Jenny Bell, added: “1st Rhosnesni scout hut is just a couple of minutes’ walk away from the new homes that we are building at Holt Vale and we know that some of the youngsters moving in on the development will eventually join one of the sections there. We’re delighted to support the ongoing success and improvements and look forward to seeing the new kitchen when it’s all in place.”
