A County Durham community centre in Cornforth has received a £1,000 donation from leading housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East.
Located close to the housebuilder’s Burdon Green development in Coxhoe, The Cornforth Partnership provides community led services including skills training for young people and activities designed to boost health and wellbeing.
The charity acquired Cornforth House in 1996 and has since leased the adjoining Number 66 from the parish council which provides a drop-in service, social and diversionary activities, and aspiration-raising opportunities for local young people. The Cornforth Partnership was set up in response to the growing poverty and isolation of the village of Cornforth and is today an established community resource centre.
CEO of The Cornforth Partnership, Tony Cutmore said: “The £1,000 will go far towards helping isolated members of the community by supporting our social activities that develop their confidence and re-engage them back into community life. The funds will also help us provide support to female victims of domestic abuse. We’re very grateful to Barratt for its generous donation.”
Barratt Developments North East, which includes the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, pledges to donate £1,000 to a North East charity every month as part of its ongoing commitment to support the communities in which it builds.

“We hope that our donation will help to raise awareness of the vital work that the charity does and help them to continue supporting the local community”.
The focus for the Barratt Foundation’s Community Fund continues to be on organisations that improve the quality of life for those living in the area close to the housebuilder’s developments.
