Lynemouth Power Receive Prestigious Health And Safety Award

Staff at Lynemouth Power Station are feeling golden having won The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ (RoSPA) Order of Distinction Award.

The plant, which has a 146-strong workforce, has been recognised for its exceptional health and safety standards by RoSPA which completes stringent employee safety and accident prevention assessments at organisations throughout the UK.

Orders of Distinction are presented to companies who’ve achieved gold standards for over 15 years. This year marks Lynemouth Power Station’s 24th consecutive year having ensured exceptional health and safety standards and evolving procedures in line with ongoing operations for all staff and site visitors.

This has been especially rigorous during the conversion process from fossil fuel to full biomass electricity production, now in its final stages. The project, one of the largest civil engineering developments to be undertaken in the North East, has seen a complex yet successful collaboration between teams of onsite staff and subcontractors, meaning that the highest possible health and safety standards were essential.

The Order of Distinction was awarded to Health and Safety Manager John Jones on behalf of Lynemouth Power Station. He commented, “We’re delighted to have been presented with the Order of Distinction award as it’s a great achievement and one that involves every member of staff. The hard work and dedication of our employees ensures safety procedures are to the highest possible standards and it’s great that this has been officially recognised.

“Staff know how important it is to adhere to the safety guidelines and having 24 gold ratings in a row shows that as a responsible employer, we’re definitely doing something right. We look forward to achieving many more continuous years of gold health and safety standards.”
