New chairman for Calderdale & Kirklees Manufacturing Alliance

The Calderdale and Kirklees Manufacturing Alliance (CKMA) has welcomed Martin Booth as its new chairman.

Aiming to inspire and inform its members through factory visits and regular meetings, the CKMA also acts as a facilitator to integrate businesses into the local supply chain.

As the managing director of world-renowned industrial fan manufacturer, The WITT UK Group, and a member of the Steering Group, Martin brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and experience to this position.

Taking over the role from the recently retired Jeff Monks, this new installation will see Martin heading up the CKMA – utilising his passion for growing and developing engineering businesses, as well as encouraging young people to enter the industry.

Martin said: “I have been immersed in the manufacturing world for many years now, which has enabled me to become well-connected within the Calderdale area. Alongside my current positions, I believe my involvement with Fit 4 Nuclear – as well as being a part of the Leeds City Region LEP Business Innovation and Growth panel – has stood me in good stead to properly represent and give a ‘voice’ to local business people.”

The news of Martin’s appointment follows the announcement of the organisation’s up-and-coming events in October, which will run on 23rd and 25th, to promote a career in manufacturing to students from local schools.

“Being an Enterprise Ambassador, I love speaking to young people about the opportunities within this field,” continued Martin. “I’m passionate about helping students develop new skills, which is why I am so excited to be a part of the CKMA team at this significant time.

The two upcoming workshops will see members and other supporting organisations come together to promote this under-valued industry. And in my role as chairman, this is set to be my focus throughout 2019”
