Leading national engineering specialist, SES Engineering Services, has marked the completion of its £1.7m contract to deliver mechanical and electrical (M&E) services on South Yorkshire Police’s new state-of-the-art Barnsley Custody Suite.
The 20 cell suite, located on Churchfield and forming part of Barnsley Police Headquarters, replaces the existing suite on the site. The scheme is a key aspect of the force’s major £19m project to improve custody facilities across South Yorkshire.
Working in close collaboration with lead contractor Willmott Dixon and South Yorkshire Police, SES was responsible for the design, supply and installation of a range of M&E services, including ventilation, air conditioning, heating and lighting.
The completion comes just months after SES’ successful delivery of a £2.7m M&E contract on South Yorkshire Police’s flagship custody facility in Sheffield. Both schemes, completed alongside Willmott Dixon, were completed on time and on budget.
Replicating its success on the Sheffield project, SES and the project team maximised the use of pioneering Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology at Barnsley. The digital building technology enabled the teams to significantly reduce material costs, time and waste as well as improving efficiency and sustainability.

SES was recently awarded both Willmott Dixon’s ‘Supplier of the Year’ and Scape’s ‘Supply Chain Partner of the Year’ awards reflecting their outstanding work on both the Sheffield and Barnsley Custody Suite projects.
