Teesside-based TaperedPlus has launched a suite of digital tools designed to improve the way flat roofs are designed, specified and installed, helping construction professionals increase accuracy, simplify compliance and reduce costly onsite issues.
It has introduced an advanced 3D modelling system alongside an online U-value calculator as part of its ongoing digital development strategy. The tools are designed for architects, specifiers and contractors, providing greater confidence from the design stage through to installation.
At the centre of the new offering is a 3D modelling tool that enables users to visualise roof geometry in detail, including falls, drainage points, insulation layouts and complex roof features. Unlike traditional drawing outputs, the system generates clear visualisations that are easier to interpret during both design and construction.
The technology provides a clearer understanding of how a roof will perform before installation begins, while helping installers better understand board layouts, drainage direction and installation sequencing. Early feedback from architects, BIM professionals and contractors has highlighted the tool’s ability to communicate complex roof geometry in a clear and accessible format.
The benefits have already been demonstrated on live projects, including Linacre House in Bootle, Merseyside, where TaperedPlus developed a 536m² tapered insulation scheme to resolve existing ponding issues.
Stephen Dunne, contractor training & support at professional flat roofing systems supplier Flex-R, said: “The 3D model proved particularly valuable on the project because it helped the contractor visualise the tapered insulation layout, drainage falls and installation sequence in a much clearer way. For a team with limited experience of tapered systems, it provided a practical onsite reference that improved understanding of the scheme and gave installers greater confidence throughout delivery.”
Alongside the modelling platform, TaperedPlus has developed an online U-value calculator that delivers instant thermal performance analysis, allowing users to test different insulation build-ups and verify compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations.
Together, the tools create a more efficient design process by bringing design intent, thermal performance and installation requirements closer together. By improving communication across project teams, they also help reduce waste, minimise rework and support more efficient project delivery.
Aman Chahal, co-founder and CEO of TaperedPlus, said: “Flat roofing design has traditionally been fragmented and time-consuming, often relying on manual processes and separate stages. Our focus has been on developing digital tools that genuinely improve how people design and deliver roofs in practice.
“Our 3D modelling provides a level of clarity that hasn’t typically been available in a format installers can easily use, while our U-value calculator helps simplify compliance. Importantly, this is just the beginning, and we have further digital developments in the pipeline that will continue to support both specifiers and installers.”
Founded in 2014, TaperedPlus operates nationwide and has a technical design studio in Wolverhampton. In 2023, the company secured a £5.5 million investment from BGF to accelerate its digital transformation, expand its technical sales team and support continued growth.
