The Bannatyne Group has completed the acquisition of Beechdown Leisure Club, a leading premium health and wellbeing facility in Basingstoke, marking the company’s first health club in Hampshire.
The Darlington-headquartered Group, owned by serial entrepreneur and former Dragons’ Den investor Duncan Bannatyne, now operates 67 health clubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The addition of Beechdown Leisure Club extends its national footprint into a new region and strengthens its position as one of the UK’s largest independent health and wellbeing operators.
Beechdown Leisure Club provides a full lifestyle offering, including a fully-equipped gym with tailored programmes, a wide range of exercise classes, an indoor swimming pool and poolside jacuzzi, a spa offering a range of wellbeing treatments and spa day packages, racquet courts, a brasserie with indoor and outdoor seating, Ofsted-registered childcare, and dedicated children’s activity programmes.
To build on the club’s strong racquet sport offering, the Group will install new padel courts in the first half of 2026, reflecting the rapidly growing popularity of the sport and its importance within the wider leisure market.
These facilities align closely with the Bannatyne Group’s focus on delivering high-quality fitness and wellbeing settings.
Founded in 1997, the Bannatyne Group employs more than 2,700 people and offers an integrated approach to health, fitness and wellbeing through its network of clubs, spas and hotels.
The acquisition of Beechdown forms part of the Group’s strategy of targeted expansion and investment to support long-term growth and deliver outstanding member experiences.
Duncan Bannatyne, Chief Executive and Chairman of the Bannatyne Group, said: “Beechdown Leisure Club is an excellent addition to our portfolio and represents an important step into Hampshire for the Bannatyne brand.
“The club’s high-quality facilities and strong community appeal complement our existing estate, and we look forward to working with the talented team there while building relationships with existing and future members.”
